With further reference to your Very Confidential letter to me of 15 July on the subject of the Danzig situation (1), I have the honour to inform you that I have been instructed by Lord Halifax to convey to your Eminence an expression of his warm thanks for your communication of the information contained in your letter and of his appreciation of the action which the Vatican has found it possible to take in the interests of peace.

I shall be grateful if your Eminence will be so good as to communicate Lord Halifax’s message to His Holiness. (2)
